The farmers market, actually explained

The Overland Park Farmers' Market has run for more than forty years in downtown — not as a tourist attraction, but as the week's grocery run for a lot of Johnson County households. That matters for how you should approach it.

When: Saturdays, April through October, typically 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. (confirm hours on the city's Farmers' Market page before you drive over — holiday weekends shift sometimes.)

What you'll find: Farm produce, flowers, baked goods, honey, plants, and prepared foods from regional vendors. It's not a flea market. It's not a craft fair. The ratio skews edible.

How locals do it: They have a route. Coffee first, loop the perimeter, then double back for what they missed. If you're new, do one full lap before spending — prices and quality vary vendor to vendor, and the best tomatoes don't always have the prettiest sign.

After the market: You're already downtown. Hummus & Pita and Tallboyz Garage are a short walk. The Indian Creek Trail connects nearby if you want to walk off breakfast.

The market is consistently ranked among the best in the country — that ranking is fair, but it also means Saturdays get crowded by 10 a.m. Earlier is calmer.
