What this guide is
You shouldn't have to dig through chain restaurants and outdated lists to plan a day here. We started Overland Park, KS when useful local answers kept getting buried. Independent guide to neighborhoods, restaurants, shops, things to do, and history and facts when you want the why behind a place.
On Eat and Shops we stick to independents. Big chains and franchise resale are out. KC-born spots that still feel local count. We give you one editorial line per place, then link you to the business's own site. Hours, menus, and prices stay there.
How we build the guide
- Local eats and shops. Restaurants and shops here are independents with local owners or real KC roots. National chains and franchise resale don't make the cut.
- Neighborhood by neighborhood. We work through the city area by area: official visitor resources, downtown and shopping district directories, city parks pages, and what's actually in each neighborhood. Each listing is checked against the business's own website.
- Links to the source. Each listing links to the business's own site. Hours, menus, and prices stay there and get updated there, not copied here where they go stale.
- One line each. One short editorial line per place: enough to help you pick, not directory padding.
- What's in the guide now. Today that's 124 restaurants, 62 shops, and 81 things to do. We add entries, correct them, and remove them when they're gone or wrong.
Articles in Guide are written in-house. On Facts and History we cite public sources when it matters.
